Gjøvik chamber of commerce is operated by Visit East Norway, is approved as a chamber of commerce by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and is part of ICC's accreditation chain through the chamber of commerce collaboration in Norway.
We are one of Norway's 15 chambers of commerce that all do our best to help make your everyday life as an exporter or importer a little bit easier. The Gjøvik chamber of commerce's most common services are the issuance of a ATA carnets (for goods that are temporarily exported out of Norway), Certificates of Origin and certification of associated supporting documents.
Opening hours
The Gjøvik chamber of commerce is run by individual employees of Visit East Norway and follows the same opening hours as the tourist office in Gjøvik. However, we recommend calling or sending an email rather than betting on random visits, as we may be busy in meetings or ather appointments.
Ordinary opening hours:
• Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m
About ATA Carnets
Provided that the goods are returned to Norway, an ATA Carnet enables you to take commercial samples, professional equipment and goods for presentation at trade fairs, shows and exhibitions with you, without having to clear customs and pay duties. The Carnet simplifies customs clearance and replaces all export, import and transit documents.
The Carnet scheme means that the chamber of commerce stands as guarantor for the equipment you take with you to the countries you visit. As security, we require a deposit that will be refunded when the Carnet is returned and we have verified that it has been used correctly.
The Carnet can be issued for one or multiple journeys, and it must always accompany the goods. It must be produced and stamped at each border crossing (because the EU is a single customs union, you get a stamp only when you enter the first EU country and exit the last EU country).

About Certificates of Origin
A Certificate of Origin is a document that shows where an item originates from. This can be used when the importer/import country’s authorities require proof of origin and no other specific forms exist for this purpose. Given that it is a “non-preferential certificate of origin”, it does not confer any customs benefits in the import country.
If the import country requires a Certificate of Origin, this must be presented to the import country’s customs authorities for inspection. When using such a certificate, without any requirement for consular registration, it is generally sufficient that the document is attested or authenticated. Some countries also require the document to be legalised by an embassy or consulate. You are recommended to contact the importer for further information about the legalisation requirements.
Applications for Certificates of Origin must be submitted via EssCert, our electronic system for document certification.
